Prof. Dr. Sylvie Daminet

Sylvie Daminet was born in Genk, Belgium. She obtained her veterinary degree in 1992 from the University of Liège. Immediately after, she went abroad where she completed an internship followed by a residency in Internal Medicine for Small Animals at the University of Montreal in Canada. In 1996 she became a recognized specialist (diplomat) of the American and European College of Internal Medicine (ACVIM & ECVIM). She then obtained a master's degree on the evaluation of thyroid function in dogs. She taught at the faculties of Montreal and Prince Edward Island in Canada and was a lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College in London, England. She obtained her doctoral degree on evaluation of thyroid function in dogs at the University of Ghent, where she is a professor at the Department of Small Animals. She is head of the Department of Small Animals and of the Department Internal Medicine for Companion Animals. Within her clinical activities as an internist, she has a special interest in endocrinology and nephrology of companion animals.

Sylvie is (co-)author of more than 200 publications in international and national journals. Numerous PhDs were completed under her supervision. She is a much sought-after speaker at international conferences and actively participates in providing post-graduate training for practitioners. She wrote several chapters in veterinary books. She was president of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology from 2009 to 2011 (www.esve.org) and head of ECVIM's Specialty Internal Medicine (2011-2014).

In her free time she enjoys swimming, horseback riding and music. Her 2 sons and her husband mean the world to her.
